Ingredients
- 2 cups of rice
- 4 tablespoons of oil
- 3 cups of beef stock (1 1/2 cups of beef stock for 1 cup of rice)
- 1 teaspoon of salt
Plain rice recipe
- Wash rice and sprinkle with 2 teaspoons of salt. Soak for 20-30 minutes in tepid water.
- In a pot, bring 3 cups of water to a boil with oil.
- Add sieved rice and stir. Cover and boil on a high heat for 2-3 minutes. Lower the heat and boil until the water is absorbed.
- Cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Stir and partially uncover for a short while.
Notes:
If there is no time to soak rice, you can cook it by adding an extra half a cup of water.
If you use a beef stock tablet, then don’t add salt into the cooking water.
You can add 2-3 tablespoons of milk to the cooking water to change the taste of the rice.
Rice With Carrots: Prepare plain rice. Peel and chop carrots, and boil in a little water until the water evaporates. Saute carrots with 1 tablespoon of oil and add to the rice.
Rice With Peas: Boil 1 cup of peas and saute with 1 tablespoon of oil and add to the rice.
Rice With Chickpeas: Wash and soak half a cup of chickpeas in water overnight. Add chickpeas in their water to the rice while it is cooking.
